A5060 Antenna In Retail (2)

Retail

These environments are dynamic, with rising expectations for operational efficiency, inventory visibility, and improved customer experience.  RFID technology plays a role in meeting these demands, helping retailers implement smarter, more adaptable systems.

Therefore understanding how the A5060 integrates into typical retail settings can help inform deployment strategies.

What is the A5060?

This antenna is a high-gain, circularly polarised RAIN RFID antenna with a low-profile form factor and an exceptional read range exceeding 10 metres (33 feet).

Whether used vertically or horizontally, it offers flexible read zone control, making it a powerful tool in modern retail deployments. With its multi-element array, narrow 25° beam, and enhanced mounting design, the A5060 delivers high precision in even the most complex environments.

Key benefits

High performance in dense retail environments
  • 10.5 dBiC gain delivers strong and accurate reads over long distances.

  • Perfect for densely packed trolleys or tagged merchandise on retail racks.

  • Circular polarisation ensures reliable reads regardless of tag orientation.

Controlled read zones for precision tracking
  • Narrow 25° beam width enables controlled, confined read areas, ideal for isolated zones like entrances/exits, fitting rooms, or stock portals.

  • Mount vertically for dense tracking areas or horizontally to avoid RF spill in open retail spaces.

Flexible mounting

The A5060 offers versatile mounting options designed to balance ease of installation, and visual discretion.

  • VESA-Compatible Accessory: A dedicated mounting plate enables straightforward installation using standard VESA mounts, minimising setup complexity.

  • Discreet Above-Ceiling Integration: The antenna can be installed into ceiling tile grids, preserving clean ceiling lines and meeting aesthetic requirements while still supporting efficient item-level tracking.

Installation Options

  • Flush Mount: A5060 can be drilled through the corner without damaging the antenna. See A5060 product page for mounting instructions.

  • VESA Mount: Attaches via the optional back plate accessory, allowing secure and flexible positioning.

  • Rear Mount: Installed behind ceiling tiles, allowing the antenna to read through standard ceiling materials.

Fire retardant & safety compliant

The A5060’s construction meets fire safety standards, making it suitable for ceiling-level integration in commercial retail settings.

Retail Use Case Examples

  • Back-of-House: Overhead stockroom tracking, packing stations, and inventory audits

  • Front-of-House: Overhead at exits, customer service desks, or fitting rooms

  • Security: Discreet asset monitoring in high-theft or high-value areas

Anti-theft use case examples

The diagram below demonstrates the A5060 mounted in a horizontal orientation, a configuration particularly effective for:

  • Anti-theft gate systems at store exits and

  • Stock delivery control at warehouses or storerooms

The horizontal mounting (pictured below) helps capture tags in shopping bags or handheld containers within a curtain beam read zone.

The green lobes represent the antenna’s radiation pattern, illustrating the A5060's focused and directional read zone which aligns with the path of tagged items.

Other considerations

Antenna placement: To achieve the desired vertical read coverage, choose the appropriate number of side-mounted antennas. Alternatively, opt for overhead mounting where space or structural constraints limit side mounting options.

Note: For guidance on optimal placement distances and understanding read coverage, refer to our blog:

How to interpret antenna radiation patterns

Cable loss: Determine what the acceptable power loss should be to ensure it does not significantly affect read performance. See your manufacturer's datasheet for these values.

This above example refers to specifications for Times-7 cables.

Note: Some reader software has a cable loss setting, where the cable length and cable loss data can be added from the respective cable datasheet, and the settings will be adjusted automatically to compensate.

Whether tracking high-value items or managing backroom-to-salesfloor, the A5060 helps retailers achieve greater visibility and control. The A5060 combines performance and versatility, making it the ideal antenna for future-ready retail.
